As a professional in the rental housing industry, you understand the importance of investing in your business through education, technology and marketing.  Investing in legislative advocacy efforts is another important way that you can invest in your business.  Just one bad law or regulation can impact the way you do business and add thousands of dollars to your company’s bottom line.

The Legislative programs through your local Apartment Association, the Texas Apartment Association and the National Apartment Association help protect your business by:

Supporting pro-business and pro-industry candidates.
Funding initiatives and programs related to legal and legislative issues.
Building a network or contacts with legislators and elected officials, to
ensure that our industry’s voice is heard.

Why should you care about Legislative and Political Advocacy?

In 2005 alone, the TAA Legislative efforts accomplished the following:

Defeated renter rebate:  $300 million savings
Defeated required installation of Carbon Monoxide Detectors in every unit $300    million savings
Defeated Property Manager Licensing - $5.2 million savings
Total Calculable savings this year estimated at over $800 million!!

Industry with a full time presence at the state capitol and before more than
   20 state regulatory agencies.

TAA works closely with the National Apartment Association/National Multi-Housing
Council Joint Legislative Office on federal issues affecting the multifamily rental    housing industry such as fair housing and environmental regulations.
TAA staff advises local associations on city and county ordinances and other issues.
Through the grassroots activities of the TAA Contact Team (TAACT) and one of the    largest trade association Political Action Committees in the state, TAA supports    candidates for the Texas Legislature and statewide offices who will be receptive to    industry positions.
